What is a Tied-Quilt Blanket?

Our Tied-Quilt Blankets are super soft (made with flannel material), cuddly, surprisingly light but warm, and colourful - ready to provide a hug, at any time.  Being especially durable, they can be thrown into the washer and dryer to re-appear fluffed up again ready to snuggle for many years to follow.  Check out our Tied-Quilt Blankets for Sale page plus Orders are always accepted (email gloria@blanketstatement.ca).

What's Special about a Tied-Quilt Blanket:

What's extra cool with Blanket Statement Tied-Quilts is that the patterns selected are used to make only one or a just a very few to ensure uniqueness.  Because they are made with Flannel and sewing machine-bound, they are highly environmental since they last literally for decades!  Plus, if you want, you can choose to have a "hand" in the making by requesting that a portion of your Tied-Quilt Blanket be left un-tied ready for you to complete.  Super for yourself, or as a gift and if your blanket is for a fur baby, "tying" it on your own will let you add your calming "scent."

How are they Made?

To make one, a Tied-Quilt Blanket starts with a bottom layer, the "backing", of solid-coloured flannel material.  Then, a layer of 100% polyester quilt "batting" is spread over the backing followed by a patterned layer of flannel becoming the "top."  All three layers are then secured around the edges.

A dull, quilting needle with a slight bend at the top, is thread with yarn that is used to create ties which are then made into "S-knot" bows by hand (which we find to be very calming).  Lastly, the backing layer is used to "bind" the "quilt-blanket" creating an edging where a pleasing, sewing-machine stitch is applied, framing the finished delight.

About Tied-Quilt Blankets:

Also referred to sometimes as "Tie Quilting", "Tie-in Quilting" and "Hand-tied Quilting", this very old craft has been around for a long time.  There's belief that one reason it originated was that, different from traditional quilts, they could be made using heavier material resulting in a warmer result.  Plus, for smaller to medium/biggest sizes, this type of "quilting" could be done without using a frame making it possible for many crafters, and others, to jump in and produce them.

What is "Blanket Statement" all About?

Usually the saying "Blanket Statement" means saying something that "affects everything and everyone" used to blanket a thought covering many topics or a group of folks in a general way.  Here at Blanket Statement though, we are hoping to add a new definition to the term by having it mean the "blanketing" of a special feeling or a memory, made for a special recipient to reflect a happy event, a holiday, a celebration, or just "because" it will brighten their day!

"Tie-a-Blanket" Workshops:

Interested in learning how to make a Tied-Quilt Blanket?  Join us for one of our "Tie-a-Quilt" Workshops.  "If you can "tie" your shoes, you can "tie" a quilt!"  There are two Sizes of Tied-Quilts Blankets to choose from (and either can be done in the same session):  the Smallest size 20" x 27.5" or the Medium size 22.5" x 36" - both great for all of us as a Lap-Topper Tied-Quilt Blanket and also awesome for our fur babies as a Pet Bed/Cover.

The "binding" will be done using an easy-to-use Brother Sewing Machine, with a large set of stiches to select from.
And, you can choose to have the binding sewn for you, or you can be hands-on and sew on your own.  The current season or holiday will be how the pattern and colours come together.  Workshops are 2-hours in duration with supplies included in the cost.

Additionally:  If you are interested in making a Biggest size 36" x 45" -size Tied-Quilt, that requires the use of our custom-designed Blanket Statement frame, please let us know, we can do that too!  This type of class can also become a group event where attendees can come together to "tie" a "quilt blanket" as a Gift for someone special.
